In the Maoist affected areas, now the local villagers are also ready to fight on the cross. In Janturai village of Odisha’s Malkangiri district adjoining Sukma in Chhattisgarh, local villagers shot dead 1 Maoist with arrows and wounded another Maoist.
In the area, there was a fierce clash between villagers and Maoists on Saturday night in the area over development project works and Republic day celebration. The Maoists had reached the Janturai village to order the local tribal villagers to stay away from development works and not to celebrate Republic Day.
Local villagers erupted at this point of Maoists. They strongly opposed it. After this, the Maoists started firing on the villagers. After which the villagers retaliated with their arrows and stones.
In this retaliatory attack by villagers, 1 Maoist was killed and another was seriously injured. After seeing the villagers falling heavily in the clash, the Maoists fled. After sometime, when the Maoists returned in anger, they burnt the houses and vehicles of some unarmed villagers like nymphs.
The villagers handed over the killed and injured Maoist to the soldiers of the Hantalaguda BSF camp. The dead Maoist has been identified as Adam. There was a reward of ₹1 lakh on him. At the same time, the injured Maoist was identified as Jipru. (₹4 lakh reward on him).
The villagers are currently taking shelter in the Kunturpadar police camp. Security forces say that the Maoists would not have expected this retaliation by the villagers. Security’s forces are trying to improve the situation in the village and at the same time are constantly checking security of the area.
