In a significant development, security forces neutralised a prominent Maoist during an encounter in the Pamalur forest area under Sukma district’s Bhejji police station.
The operation, which took place on the evening of October 7, 2024, was a result of coordinated efforts by District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, 206 and 208 CoBRA units, along with CRPF battalions 131 and 212.
According to police officials, the joint party was dispatched on October 6, 2024, following intelligence reports regarding the presence of Maoist terrorists from the Konta and Kistaram Area Committees.
The forces were deployed to conduct anti-Naxal operations in areas surrounding Dabbakonta, Entapad Burklanka, Pamalur, and Singhanmadgu.
During this operation, a fierce gunfight erupted between the security forces and the Maoists in the dense forest terrain of Pamalur.
In the ensuing encounter, one male Maoist was killed, and his body was recovered with a weapon at the scene.
Subsequent investigations confirmed the identity of the deceased as Lokesh, a member of the Kistaram Area Committee, a notable figure among the Maoist ranks in the region.
The encounter marks another blow to Maoists forces operating in the dense jungles of Chhattisgarh.
Security forces are continuing search operations in the area to ensure no remnants of the Maoist group are left in the vicinity.
The operation comes shortly after another significant success in the Abujhmad region, where 31 Maoists were neutralised by security forces.
The ongoing combing operation in Sukma district underscores the relentless efforts of security forces to eliminate Maoist presence in the region, which has seen increased violence and terrorism in recent years.
Authorities are expected to release further details as the search operation progresses.
