Recent Maoist Surrender in Chhattisgarh: An Example of Security Forces' and Government's Success

 

 

 

More than 231 Maoist terrorists laid down their arms in Chhattisgarh this year alone, which in itself was some kind of record. The terrorists, some of whom were senior terrorists, gave up arms and came forward with an inclination to get their lives back into the mainstream of society. It is the fallout of well-planned counter-insurgency strategies put in place by security forces over time and carried out with precision.

 

Relentless operations by the CRPF, Chhattisgarh Police, and other units have mounted pressure on the Maoist groups. The operational capabilities of the Maoists were affected; as a result, serial high-profile surrenders resulted from consistent combing operations, intelligence-based strikes, and the setting up of new security camps in far-flung areas.

 

 

These surrenders have been facilitated at the initiative of the Chhattisgarh government headed by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. It is the comprehensive rehabilitation policy of the state which has sapped the Maoist terrorists of their armed struggle. It provides for financial incentives that give an assurance to those who surrender an opportunity to live a dignified life and be useful citizens of society.

 

One of the surrendered Maoists, on condition of anonymity, shared, "The rehabilitation programme run by the government gave us hope for a better future. We realised the futility of violence and wanted to be part of mainstream society."

 

 

The contribution of security forces in this achievement is immeasurable. What the CRPF, along with state police and other units, has shown in terms of bravery and dedication is unparalleled. Their efforts toward maintenance of law and order, conducting successful operations, and safeguarding civilians have been highly instrumental in curbing the Maoist activities.

 

The Inspector General, Sundarraj Patilingam, said, "These surrenders were a major step toward making the land of Chhattisgarh Naxalism-free. Our forces are committed to restoring peace and making every citizen feel safe and secured. Our operations will continue incessantly until the region is totally free from all the terrors."

 

 

It is the New Dawn for Chhattisgarh, which heralds the surrender of Maoist terrorists. Coupled efforts of Security Forces and the Government have created an atmosphere where there is peace and development.

 

Though it remains a difficult road ahead, the recent surrender quite clearly shows that times have changed. So, sustained efforts, continuous support of the community, continuous resolve of security forces and government ensure together that Chhattisgarh can see permanent stability and prosperity. The recent Maoist surrender in Chhattisgarh has been a great success story.
