Security forces have intensified their anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, resulting in significant developments over the weekend. In Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a Maoist, Rakesh Kumar Oyam, was injured and subsequently captured during an encounter with security personnel.

The confrontation occurred in Kummameta village's dense forests as the District Reserve Guard (DRG) pursued local Maoist commander Anil Punem and his armed group.

Oyam, affiliated with the Belchar Revolutionary Party Committee, has been linked to four criminal cases across Bijapur and nearby regions. He received preliminary treatment at the Bijapur district hospital before being transferred to a Jagdalpur facility for further care.

Meanwhile, in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police uncovered a hidden arms cache allegedly stored by high-profile Maoist commanders ahead of the state elections.

Acting on intelligence, Palamu police and the CRPF’s 93rd Battalion conducted a thorough search in the Mahudand area of Hussainabad, where they unearthed firearms buried in the forested terrain.

The cache included locally crafted firearms and ammunition, purportedly concealed by notorious Maoist terrorists Nitesh Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, and Thegan Mian, who have substantial bounties on their heads.

According to Palamu SP Reshma Ramesh, these concealed weapons were likely intended for election-related disruptions. Further FIRs have been registered under the Arms Act and 17 CLA Act against the involved Maoists.

SP Ramesh noted that the Maoists have altered their hiding tactics to disperse weapon locations, complicating retrieval efforts by security forces.

As the Jharkhand Assembly elections approach, intensified area domination and anti-Maoist campaigns will continue in vulnerable zones to ensure regional stability.
