In a coordinated strike against Maoist terrorists, Bijapur security forces neutralised three uniformed male Maoists during a fierce encounter near Rekhapalli in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday.
The joint operation, involving DRG, STF, CoBRA, and CRPF units, unfolded around 11 a.m. and continued with intermittent gunfire through the day, officials reported.
Confirming the development, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Dr. Jitendra Kumar Yadav stated, “All personnel involved in the operation are safe. The search operation is still underway, with additional findings expected upon team return.”
The security forces were acting on intelligence regarding Maoist presence across the Usur-Basaguda-Pamed-Tarrem area, which led them to launch a massive search in the dense forest and hilly terrain between Rekhapalli and Komatpalli. During the search, a heavy exchange of fire erupted, resulting in the deaths of three Maoists.
During the search of the encounter site, security forces recovered a cache of arms, including one sniper SLR rifle, a sniper weapon, a pistol, a 12-bore rifle, and two locally-made rifles. The identity of the deceased terrorists is being verified.
This latest encounter follows recent discoveries of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Bijapur. On November 7, a 5 kg IED was defused near Mutvendi, while another similar device was neutralised earlier between Sawanar and Korcholi on November 5.
Authorities remain vigilant, expecting possible retaliatory actions as security forces continue to press against Maoist factions.
