In a major breakthrough, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Jagargunda region arrested eight Maoists and seized explosive materials in a coordinated operation on 12th September 2024.
The joint operation, involving district police, CRPF, and DRG, is being hailed as a significant success in the ongoing fight against Maoist insurgency in the state.
Acting on intelligence about Maoist movements, security forces deployed in the dense forests surrounding Basanvilli village. During the operation, the team apprehended eight suspected Maoists. Upon interrogation, the detainees admitted to their involvement in Maoist activities.
The Maoists were caught with a substantial cache of explosives, which included components used for manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs). These IEDs are frequently employed in attacks targeting security forces and civilians.
The seized materials are undergoing forensic analysis, and further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended use of the explosives.
The arrested individuals, all locals of the Jagargunda region, have been identified as Yakek Deka (33), Firka Maso (35), Foska Vilani (40), and Minko Dasor (40), among others. Officials are probing the detainees for more details on the Maoist group’s recruitment and operational tactics.
District Superintendent of Police, Sunil Joshi, lauded the operation, stating, "This is a major step in dismantling the Maoist network in this region. Our forces displayed excellent coordination and bravery." Joshi emphasised the critical role of local intelligence and affirmed the state government’s support in ongoing anti-Maoist efforts.
Post-arrest, the district police filed an FIR under the Explosive Substances Act. The suspects were presented in court on 13th September 2024 and are currently in judicial custody. The authorities hope this breakthrough will lead to more arrests and further weaken Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh.
This arrest is part of a wider strategy employed by the state, which combines military action with developmental initiatives. The government is working on improving roads, healthcare, and education in the region to counter Maoist ideology and prevent youth from being drawn into insurgency.
With this success, security forces remain committed to eradicating Maoism from the state, ensuring stability and safety for its people.
