In a significant development in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations, three Maoists, including two men and a woman, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Abujhmad, Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh, near the Maharashtra border.
The encounter took place on Monday afternoon, around 4 p.m., following a tip-off about Maoist movement in the Maad area, known for being a stronghold of terrorist activity.
A joint team of security forces launched a combing operation when they came under fire from Maoists, leading to a fierce gun battle.
An AK-47 rifle and other weapons were recovered from the slain Maoists, signifying the group’s readiness for confrontation.
The terrorists, believed to be part of the Maoist cadres in the region, had been using the rugged terrain of Abujhmad forest as a base for their operations.
The forest, which extends across 3,900 square kilometres, is notoriously difficult to navigate and has long served as a Maoist sanctuary.
This latest encounter brings the total number of Maoists killed by security forces in the Bastar region this year to 157, reflecting the increased intensity of anti-Naxal operations in the area.
Chhattisgarh has been a hotbed of Maoist activity, and the security forces have ramped up efforts to eliminate Maoist influence in the region, setting up more than 200 camps to choke off their movements.
The operation is ongoing, with forces continuing to scour the area for more Maoists. The government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating Naxalism.
